I share my Mt Everest goal with you for 2 reasons. Firstly to ask you to keep me accountable and secondly to help inspire you to give thought to your own goal or goals for 2015.

After successfully climbing Victoria's two highest Mountains, Mt Feathertop and Mt Bogong, back in December, my passion for the outdoors was reignited after laying dormant for several years.

So 2015 is to consist of several significant hikes to get in shape for our next big challenge.

Time to confess.

I don't actually intend to climb Mt Everest, but I do plan to climb Mt French, in New Zealand, with my daughter in January 2016.

Apparently the last part of the hike/climb up Mt French, altitude of 2340m, is extremely steep and challenging, particularly with a heavy pack. Yes, full kit required as we hope to be sleeping on the Bonar Glacier under a full moon prior to coming back down again.

So one of my mountaineer friends, that I find impossible to keep up with whilst hiking with a full pack, suggested some rigorous training during 2015 to prepare for Mount French. His idea, which I thought was a good one, was to complete as many hikes as possible with a heavy pack during 2015 until we have climbed the same altitude as Mt Everest. A mere 8,848 metres UP!

To put this in perspective, Arthurs Seat in Dromana rises to 314 metres above sea level.

Therefore Mt Everest is 4.45 times higher than Mt Bogong, Victoria's tallest mountain or over 28 times higher than Arthurs Seat.

My personal goal is to have climbed the equivalent of Mt Everest elevation on or before 30th Sept 2015 and I ask you to hold me personally accountable for achieving this. Otherwise, Mt French in New Zealand will be way harder than what it needs to be due to insufficient physical training.

That's enough talk of my 2015 Goal, what's yours?
